Cape Project

The PCYC CAPE 'Community Activity Programs through Education' Project aims to encourage and motivate young people in the Cape York communities to enhance their skills and ability to make decisions and enjoy life.

The Cape Project was developed after research (in the creation of the PCYCs at Mornington and Palm Islands) showed that the PCYC and the Queensland Police Service could not supply PCYCs to all indigenous communities in Cape York - even though all of these communities need access to the services that can be offered by a Police-Citizens Youth Club.

A partnership was formed between the Far Northern Police Region and the PCYC to provide services into Cape York communities, with the police service providing the staffing through liaison officers and the PCYC providing support through its resources, management model and ability to apply for grants for additional staff.

The activity platform is a safe place for activities to be provided for young people during the week and at particular times on the weekends, and for coordinating sporting, recreational and out of school educational activities.

The Project is presently operating in three communities, Napranum, Wujal Wujal/Bloomfield and Hopevale.
