Indigenous Programs
Motivational Speakers
This program involves invited guests that are well known in our country - whether it be sports people, politicians, entertainers etc. These guests meet and encourage young people as well as the community.
Youth Management Team
A group of young people motivated to serve their community by organizing youth oriented activities and being actively involved in their local PCYC.
Graffiti Project
A project in partnership with Youth Justice to involve youths on Community Service Orders. Participants clean defaced properties and replace it with constructive and culturally appropriate graffiti.
Elements Production Program (Hip Hop)
This program is a spin-off of the Styling Up and Styling Out Program. The young people involved in the first hip hop workshop continued to write lyrics waiting for this program. The components of this program were: song writing, break dancing, beatboxing and recording/computer skills.
Broadcasting Program
Young people engaging in Media production to broadcast youth events and to provide a youth voice on air. This was supported by a radio announcer sharing her skills with the young people.
Modeling program
A program in partnership with Red Cross to help boost a sense of self worth in young people. Ten days of practice as well as choosing outfits to suit individuals' sizes was followed by having them showcase the outfits during the official launch of Red Cross on Palm Island.
Jet Ski - Program (Beach Activities)
A beach activity that young people look forward to during the summer holidays, the perfect getaway!!! Really... this program bridges the gap between police and young people.
Breakfast Program
Program Objectives: To provide each student with a nutritious breakfast, enabling the students to better concentrate and participate in their classroom environment.
Resources: PCYC Activity Room & Paid Kitchen Staff
Implementation:
· Breakfast menu in accordance with UNICEF requirements
· Funded through Oxfam
· A before-school exercise program is conducted to promote healthy lifestyles and habits
· Volunteers from Community Health present to provide treatment and ongoing assessment of sick and/or injured students
· Program reliant upon a partnership effort with Oxfam, the School & PASS
School Bus Run
Program Objective: To provide a direct and proactive invitation for all school aged students to attend school.
Resources: PCYC van & two PLOs
Implementation:
· Patrol of the town area between 8.00am and 8.45am each weekday
· Picking up school children either from the street or their homes
· Conveying children to the PCYC for Breakfast Program
· Program Partnership with the Mornington Island State School and PASS
School's In Program
Program Objectives: To assist and support parents/guardians getting their children to school.
Resources: PCYC van & two PLOs
Implementation:
· Runs between 8.30am and 9.15am each weekday
· School gives the names of 12 persistently truant students
· Home address of each student visited to ascertain their whereabouts, reasons for non-attendance
· Transportation of located students to school
· Report made to school
· Partnership with the School
Schools Program
Program Objective: To provide a safe, all-weather venue for school sporting activities and instruction.
Resources: PCYC Main Hall & Sporting Equipment
Implementation:
· Between 10.00am and 1.00pm each weekday
· Partnership agreement with the Mornington Island State School
· Increased PCYC profile with youth, community & school staff
· Provision of assistance with student supervision & coaching upon request
· Further avenue for positive interaction between PCYC and the youth
Evening Meals Program
Program Objective: To provide a simple and nutritious evening meal to any needy youth each weekday

Implementation:
· A funding application to the "Healthy Active Australia" grant program for $150,000 is currently under consideration.
· This funding will provide an evening meal program to the Mornington Island Youth for 18 months.
· The Department of Communities, Zinifex Mines and the Boyd Curran Group are committed to provide $100,000 for the installation of a commercial kitchen.
· Currently, only one evening meal a week is provided at the PCYC.
Evening Activity Program
Program Objective: To provide a wholesome range of social, cultural and recreational activities targeting youth during the evening hours.
Resources: All staff, PCYC equipment, vehicle & facilities
Implementation:
· A variety of social and cultural activities are provided until 9.00pm each weekday.
· Activities include discos, movie nights, games & sports.
· Regular pick-up runs made of town area [especially the Tavern]
· Home transportation provided at conclusion of program
Street to Sleep Program
Program Objective: To directly challenge the presence of unsupervised youth on the streets and then convey them to a place of safety.
Resources: PCYC van
Implementation:
· Run between 10.00pm & Midnight
· Youth conveyed to a place of their choice where they can get to sleep
· Provides a unique opportunity to communicate with troubled youth
· Provides an immediate adult presence
· Very well received by youth
· A noticeable reduction in the youth presence on the streets since implementation
Cultural Activities
Spear Making - Utilising the skills of PLO Frank Watt, young men are taught the art of spear making. Classes are conducted at the Festival Grounds to further enhance cultural awareness.
Culture Camps - The camps are designed to cater for small groups of youths and focus on hunting, food gathering and dancing. This program has not achieved desired goals and may be remedied by a stronger partnership with Woomera & PASS.
Traditional Dance Classes - Honouring previous arrangements with the Mornington Island State School and Woomera, classes have continued to be held at the PCYC.
Community Welfare Activities
Donated Clothes Distribution - Obtaining resources from different charity organisations, clothing is made available to the community at a nominal cost. With the permission of the Council, this community welfare activity is conducted at the Festival Grounds.
Young Mothers Forum & Play Group Started in August 2007, a play group is held at the PCYC. This initiative has been organised by the PCYC sports & recreation officer. In additional to its social aspect, this activity can assist with regular health checks and childcare education.
