About Lang Park PCYC
Lang Park, the first branch of the Queensland Police-Citizens Youth Welfare Association, officially opened on February the 11th 1950. Youth activities were supervised by a commissioned officer and five constables. The club offered a range of activities including boxing, wrestling, basketball, judo, weight lifting, gymnastics, cricket and football. The club also featured a theatrette, library, woodwork, millinery and hosted popular and well-attended dances.
In 1985 the club was pulled down to make way for the new PCYC building, which was named after Bill Power, in honour of his contribution to the club over the years. Later, in 2000, the club was again pulled down to make way for the redevelopment of the Lang Park Football Stadium, now known as Suncorp Stadium.
Lang Park PCYC is now situated within the Suncorp Stadium development and boasts state-of-the-art facilities. The club resumed activities in 2004 in the new premises and provides a large range of activities at great prices for all members of the community. These activities include boxing, jujitsu, judo, karate, kickboxing, ladies' self defence, wrestling, spin classes, weights & cardio, tiny tots and basketball.
Since 2004 the club has experienced a healthy growth in members, with memberships exceeding 3000 in 2008. The club also provides conference and meeting space for hire to various state government agencies, local businesses and community groups.
Members may also like to attend the club to dine at an authentic Italian Restaurant, the ‘Bullets Café and Restaurant', overlooking the plaza of Suncorp Stadium. Lang Park PCYC boasts a strong heritage in basketball and is committed to providing a healthy, active and safe environment for members of the community and to improving communities through youth development.
