About Mt Isa PCYC
Mount Isa PCYC has been around for over 20 years. The club moved from its original location at Foots Recreation Centre, Marian Street, Mount Isa into its current facility at 67 Isa, Mount Isa in 2003. Mount Isa PCYC services a large area from Doomadgee and Normanton in the Gulf of Carpentaria all the way down to Birdsville in the South West, and its motto is "Improving Youth through Development".
The club itself offers a variety of services and activities to local Mount Isans including After School and Vacation Care programs, a fully equipped gymnasium, a successful gymnastics program, Muay Thai Classes, seniors exercise classes, discos, hall hire, Pulse café and canteen, basketball courts and an internet café.
For anyone unable to attend the club due to their location, Mount Isa PCYC has begun a program sending our staff to more remote areas to provide mobile discos and activity events. The first event staged was the 2007 Doomadgee Kids Xmas Xtravaganza which was held over 3 days from the 14th-16th December 2007. The event attracted 400 children and was a huge success. Children participated in discos, slip and slides, face painting, beading, sports, team building games, barbecues and playstation2 games.
The club is also involved in a number of community projects throughout the year including the Mega Day Out, Mount Isa Show, Rotary Mount Isa Rodeo, Seniors Week, Youth Week, NAIDOC Week and Apex Rock-Pop-Mime. In 2007 the PCYC Branch Support Officer Ms Kirra White was the proud winner of the Mount Isa Rodeo Queen Quest. Kirra put an enormous effort into fundraising for this event and the Mount Isa PCYC was the exceptionally gratefully beneficiary of $11,201 raised by Kirra.
In 2008 the club had over 1500 members covering a wide variety of ages.
