About Yarrabah PCYC
Yarrabah PCYC commenced as a drop-in community centre in the 1990’s. In 2004 a Sergeant (Branch Manager) was appointed and the club took up its position as one of the leading indigenous youth clubs in the state.
The branch continues its community involvement with a free, nutritious meals program, which is available for all attendees on a nightly basis. This program will expand after we receive Healthy Active Australia grant money, and will provide breakfast as well as dinner on a daily basis.
Attendees enjoy a relaxed and informal setting in which to participate in many sports, games and activities. Quieter members can enjoy Play Station and Xbox games, while a game of touch or basketball is only the bounce of a ball away.
A movie night is combined with a cross-cultural dinner every Wednesday night, and the community under 18 Drug and Alcohol free disco is held every Friday night. Yarrabah PCYC operates two buses within the community every afternoon and evening to pick up and drop off attendees from the community and outlying areas. When both buses are operating, the centre attracts over 200 children per night.
