Catalyst
‘One that precipitates a process or event, especially without being involved in or changed by the consequences'
For 2007-2008 the Blue Light Association has provided substantial funding to support the continuation of the Catalyst project in support of the young people of Queensland.
The Catalyst Program is the start process in affecting a young person to change the course of their life. The Catalyst project and has been benefiting young people who are considered ‘at risk' since 2004.
Specifically the project aims to....
To support ‘at risk' young people (12-14 yrs) to make positive life choices and experience a meaningful life.
Young people may be considered "at risk" due to any of the following risk factors:
-
a challenging family environment
-
a learning difficulty
-
challenging behaviour
-
substance dependence
Supporting a young person to make a positive contribution to their community and assisting in the transition into young adulthood, (further education and sustainable employment) continues to be a high priority for both PCYC and the Blue Light Association
The strength of the PCYC Blue Light partnership allows the Adventure Development Team to extend our service beyond providing the ‘experiential journey' to include positive parenting strategies and coaching to support the change process for participants and their families.
Teacher comments from past projects...
What was the highlight of the program for you?
Being ‘human' rather than perpetuating the institutionalised relationships of ‘school'. Seeing the students for their strengths. Watching them interact as teams and communicate, accepting each other and supporting each other. I saw things in each student that I didn't expect to see and would not have seen in a school setting.
