Get Set for Work

The Beenleigh PCYC started a 'Get Set For Work' program for high school aged young adults. Until recent changes, young people at school were able to leave at grade 10 level. Now they have to be 'earning or learning'. That is, until you turn 17 you must either be at school, in a traineeship or employed. One initiative of the Department of Employment and Training was to fund 'Get Set For Work' programs that teach life skills - job skills and a work ethic. This prepares young potential school leavers for a job and a career.

Possibly the greatest benefit of this program is that the participants gain an adult perspective on their own future, and a direction to take. To those who are academically challenged, this program gives the confidence to make the transition from school life to working life.
