Branch:        Rockhampton PCYC

To provide healthy and safe alternate activities to young people (as opposed to alcohol, drugs and risky behaviour) who are attending Schoolies Week Celebrations on the Capricorn Coast, in an effort to reduce:

·         Young people attempting to enter licensed premises

·         Levels of under-age drinking

·         Levels of intoxication due to an inability to purchase food

·         Anti-social and risky behaviour

·         Negative interactions with police

·         Negative perceptions of young people within the community

Rockhampton PCYC Schoolies Committee hire out the local night club in Yeppoon for five nights for Schoolie exclusive activities and events, including DJs, bands, themed dance parties, pool competitions, Xbox Competitions and movie afternoons. There are also rides on the beachfront (giant slide and Gladiator Game) with beach games including touch football, beach volleyball and soccer. The Committee also provides free pizza at the night-time events and the Police cook a BBQ breakfast on one of the mornings for the participants of Schoolies Week. All events are promoted as alcohol and drug free.
