Support & Strengthening Program
Branch: Townsville PCYC
The Support and Strengthening Program provides a sport/recreational based program for youth aged 9-14 years, in partnership with other agencies, to strengthen them for learning and skill them for living in the community.
Participants are aged between 9 and 14 years and are referred to the program through community groups and government agencies. They have been identified based upon disengagement or risk of disengaging, learning, behaviour support plans existing at their relevant organisations, and/or have demonstrated anti-social behaviour.
Students attend a two-hour session every week at their closest PCYC (Townsville/Upper Ross). Activities are sport/recreation based and enhance the opportunities for the students to meet the indicators of their action plan. Each activity encourages teamwork, conflict resolution, managing behaviours positively, leadership, self-esteem, confidence, life skills, and self image.
