PCYC Queensland’s Annual Community Fun Day for Disability Action Week
3 September, 2018
PCYC Queensland’s fourth annual Community Fun Day will be held at PCYC Beenleigh on Wednesday 12 September from 10.00am to 1.30pm. The community event brings people with a disability together for a fun morning of sports and games and is being held as part of the Queensland Government’s Disability Action Week (9-15 September). The Community Fun Day is hosted by PCYC Beenleigh’s Possibility Program, which commenced five years ago for people with a disability to access quality sport and recreational programs. The program also improves social inclusion, hand-eye coordination and self-confidence for participants.
Possibility Program Coordinator Peter Speaight, who himself has cerebral palsy, is pleased to host another Community Fun Day, and to highlight in the community people with a disability and celebrate their differences.
“Often people with a disability feel marginalised and isolated, and both our Community Fun Day and the Possibility Program aim to bring people together in a fun and inclusive way,” said Mr Speaight.
The Community Fun Day is a free event featuring a DJ, free sausage sizzle and 10 different sports to try. Sponsored by Logan City Council, around 400 people are expected to attend.
