Do you really need supplements?

The aim of supplementation is to obtain the right amount of nutrients to help your body function to the best of its ability. This can be achieved without supplementation by eating the right foods, however supplementation can be a great way to target problem areas. For example, if you are a vegetarian, you may be lacking certain things in your diet so particular supplements are encouraged. Common options for vegetarians are protein, iron, vitamin D, fish oils and B vitamins.

It’s about finding what works best for you. Some people take supplements because they don’t eat particular foods and are subsequently deficient in a nutrient. Others take supplements because they are convenient.

If you eat a balanced diet and don’t have any underlying conditions then you shouldn’t need supplements for your body to be functioning at its best!
