How Diet Affects Brain Function
Did you know that what you eat or do not eat… affects your brain function? Crash course time. Our diets can drastically affect our mood, focus, vitality, decision-making abilities, stress management, memory and concentration.
A diet rich in a variety of proteins, micronutrients, and healthy fats, when sustained can make all of the difference in reaching our mental potential. Additionally, what we eat can also take a toll on our brains and bodies, so let’s talk about foods that help optimise function as well as minimise damage.

Avocados
These are loaded with Vitamin K and folate which improve the flow of blood and oxygen.
Blueberries
Antioxidants and gallic acid protect the brain from oxidative stress resulting in boosted concentration and memory and increased blood/oxygen flow.
Seeds and Nuts
Vitamin E (antioxidant) and choline (precursor to acetylcholine help with drive and focus).
Broccoli
Jam-packed with Vitamin K and a tonne of nutrients including fibre, Vitamin C, iron, and potassium. It also boasts more protein than most other vegetables and has powerful plant compounds, including antioxidants.
Dark Chocolate
Rich in magnesium which helps manage stress and stimulates neurotransmitters with a small amount of caffeine.
Eggs
Choline and B Vitamins for memory, focus and brain health.
Flax Seeds
A source of Vitamin E which protects us from cognitive decline, as well as magnesium and B Vitamins. Make sure to grind to improve digestion.
Green Tea/Yerba Mate
includes caffeine and l-theanine, which increases alpha wave activity (leading to calmness and clarity).
Leafy Greens
Magnesium, antioxidants, B Vitamins and carotenoids, help prevent dementia and optimise brain function. Folic acid may aid mental clarity.
Fatty Fish
