Meet PCYC Logan City’s Adora O’Brien
Meet Member Services Team Leader Adora O’Brien, who has been with PCYC Logan City for nine years!
Tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Adora and I am originally from the Philippines. I came to Australia in 2012 and immediately started as a volunteer Branch Support Officer at PCYC Logan. I volunteered because I wanted to expose myself to the Australian way of life and I also wanted to be involved in the community.
It is one of the values I learned from my parents, the sense of belonging and being able to help, and sure enough I have gained that plus more by working at PCYC Logan. I feel I have another family, as I am surrounded by a wonderful group of supportive people from my bosses to colleagues and customers.
What does working at PCYC Logan mean to you?
I started as a volunteer Branch Support Officer at PCYC Logan nine years ago in April 2012. As part of the PCYC family, I would like to return what I received.
As the Member Services Team Leader I aim to continue to find better ways to support the club, our members and the community, and I continue to try to motivate myself and the team to provide the best service we can offer.
What do you enjoy most about working at PCYC Logan?
There are many aspects I enjoy about working at PCYC Logan! I enjoy the family atmosphere we have at the club amongst the staff, which we extend to our members. Working with our members gives me a feeling of serving the community.
I enjoy the inclusivity of the club. The team took me onboard initially as a volunteer, even when I was new to the country, and they trusted and welcomed me as part of the team from the very beginning.
I also believe in the mission and vision of PCYC Queensland – of building safer, healthier communities through youth development. Seeing children and young people engaged in our activities and watching them grow and achieve their dreams is a privilege and gives me a deep sense of achievement and satisfaction. It makes me feel proud to be an employee of PCYC Queensland.
What are you most excited about for the new PCYC Logan club?
I am excited that our brand-new facility will mean a better building and equipment, which means we will be able to serve our community better. Given the huge size of the new club, it will also mean we can cater for a larger number of customers and offer other programs. I am also looking forward to having a brand-new environment to work in!
