Meet our Member of the Month: Daniel from PCYC Lang Park

How long have you been a member at PCYC Lang Park?

I have been a member of PCYC Lang Park since 2013.

Why did you choose to train at PCYC Lang Park?

I chose PCYC Queensland because it’s a community gym. It’s not like any other gym I have been to. Some gyms can feel intimidating however at PCYC Lang Park I can walk into the gym and feel no pressure to behave or look a certain way. Everyone I meet including the staff and members of the gym are very friendly and I enjoy having conversations and engaging with them. If I don’t understand what machine to use I can always ask the friendly staff or even another member and everyone is happy to assist immediately. At PCYC Lang Park I feel at home. I have met friends here who will be my friends for life. It’s an environment where you don’t just work out and go home…you form friendships.

How is your fitness journey going?

I was always a skinny African and today I’ve developed to a point where I am happy with my strength and physique. But at the end of the day, it’s not about how you look, it’s about how you feel inside. I intend to keep up my routine. If I can when I’m 80, I still want to be here. I look at PCYC Lang Park’s senior members today in the gym and I find them inspirational. I have even formed friendships with them and enjoy the occasional coffee with them.

What’s your favourite piece of equipment?

I really like the Iso-Lateral Row. You reach a certain age in your life where you need to start protecting and strengthening your back and that’s why this piece of equipment is my favourite. In saying that though, I enjoy using a large variety of equipment as I like to keep my workouts interesting. It’s the best gym which has the best equipment!

How many times do you visit the gym in a week?

Usually, I visit the gym 5 times a week. I spend about 3 hours at the gym each day.

What is your fitness goal moving forward?

As a start-up actor, my goal is to keep in shape for possible roles that require a particular “look”. Sometimes you can be cast on your appearance so I try to maintain a strong physique. My next step is to try the classes.
