Meet our Member of the Month: Roxy from PCYC Fortitude Valley

Roxy has been training at PCYC Fortitude Valley since November 2021 and has consistently been visiting the gym 5 days a week.

Why did you choose to train at PCYC Fortitude Valley?

The equipment is brand new, the facility is clean and it’s not too busy when I train. The facility is located close to where I work and the gym is fully air-conditioned!

Tell us about how your fitness journey is going?

I have trained for the last 4 years to compete in a bodybuilding competition. At the moment, however, I am training to improve my posture and strength. I believe a fitness journey never ends, it becomes a lifestyle so I train to improve my mood, mindset and strength. Feeling and being strong is my main goal and I’m always excited to check my progress!

What is your favourite piece of equipment and exercise?

I love barbells and dumbbells. I also keep my training simple and basic, so I stick to exercises like the squat, bench, deadlift, military press and hip thrust. I’d say that deadlifts are my favourite!

What is your next fitness goal?

I want to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself with something different from what I am currently doing. I have been lifting weights for 5 years and before that, I did boxing for 3 years. I might get back into boxing for a bit and step in the ring again – I miss that feeling. I am, however, nearly 10kg heavier than when I used to fight, and I am not doing any cardio or conditioning at the moment, so it would be very challenging to start boxing again.

This year I have set the goal of trying new things so I am currently in dancing classes and planning to start Brazilian jiu-jitsu later this year.

I am a big advocate of movement in any shape and form. A fitness journey is about doing anything that you enjoy and are passionate about, that’s how you stick to it long-term. All you have to do is start, try different things and find out what works for you!
