PCYC Queensland celebrates our 2020 Australia Day Award winners

PCYC Queensland proudly acknowledges our many 2020 Australia Day Award nominees and winners, some of whom were recognised in ceremonies across the state over the weekend.

Congratulations goes to Susan McDonald of PCYC Rockhampton, Georgia Brier of PCYC Charters Towers, Jordon Kelly of PCYC Bowen and Amelia Anderson of PCYC Gold Coast, who are all 2020 Australia Day Award winners. Excitingly, Georgia, Jordon and Amelia were all named Young Citizen of the Year, and Susan was named Sports Official of the Year.

Georgia Brier was named Young Citizen of the Year in Charters Towers for her active role as a member of the PCYC Charters Towers Youth Management Team (YMT). Recognised for her work with fellow team members and staff to help with initiatives to improve the community, Georgia is also a junior school captain as well as a member of the Charters Towers State High School Band.

Jordon Kelly was named Young Citizen of the Year in the Whitsundays region. Having been an incredibly active member of the PCYC Bowen YMT for over six years, Jordon went onto achieve his Beginner and Intermediate Gymnastics Coaching Accreditations. Now a Branch Support Officer at PCYC Townsville, Jordon regularly returns to PCYC Bowen to volunteer in coordinating the gymnastics program and other club events.

Amelia Anderson was also named Young Citizen of the Year in the Gold Coast. Awarded for her commitment to the community through extensive volunteer work and fundraising efforts, Amelia is part of the PCYC Gold Coast YMT and is also completing her Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Amelia is proud to follow in the footsteps of fellow YMT member Kaitlin Barwick, who was awarded the Young Citizen of the Year in 2019.

Finally, PCYC Rockhampton’s Baton Twirlers coach and Australian Champion Baton Twirler Susan McDonald was awarded Rockhampton’s Sports Official of the Year. In recognition of training the Rockhampton twirlers for over 10 years, Susan was also recently awarded a PCYC Queensland life membership.

Well done to all our nominees and winners, PCYC Queensland is incredibly proud of all your personal achievements!
