Staff spotlight: Phoebe from PCYC Mount Isa

Phoebe is our PCYC Gym+Fitness Manager and Instructor from PCYC Mount Isa. She is passionate about helping others through all things health and fitness.

When did you join the team at PCYC Mount Isa?

I started my journey as an employee several months ago. Prior to this, I was a member of the PCYC Queensland’s gym for several years. Member turned employee!

Why did you decide to become a trainer?

I have always been interested in health and fitness! During my senior years of high school, we were offered the opportunity to complete our Certificate III in Fitness. I took this opportunity with the hope to later complete my Certificate IV and incorporate personal training into my future. Once I left high school, I completed my Certificate IV during the COVID peak as my university degree went completely online and I had a lot of free time! I have fallen in love with the diversity of the fitness industry. I love that ‘being fit and healthy’ does not have a one picture perfect image.

What are you training for personally now?

I am currently training to compete in my first body building competition in 2024! It has been a long journey already, but I have loved the process. My fitness goals for the past few years have been to show up for myself and give 100% to the process.

What is your personal favourite moment in your fitness journey?

I completed 12 months worth of bulk building last year, which means trying to put on as much healthy weight as possible. Previously to starting my bodybuilding journey, I had been trying to put on weight and hit my goal weight of 70kg for a few years. At the beginning of the year, I weighed in at 73kg, which was a 12 kilogram weight gain from the beginning. This has been my favourite part of my fitness journey as I finally hit a very long-term goal of mine. Seeing the process work after putting in 100% effort and trust was amazing.
