As we wrap up the celebrations of National Volunteer Week at PCYC Queensland, meet Boxing Coach Volunteer Ally!

Ally Spicer - Boxing Coach PCYC Goondiwindi

Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself and how did you hear about the volunteering role at PCYC Queensland?

I had trained under the previous boxing coach for a number of years. When he retired I was asked to take on the role of coach which I have done for the past 9 plus years! I grew up in Goondiwindi and My wife and i have a welding business here.

What inspired you to become a volunteer at PCYC Queensland?

Wanted to give back to the community in a volunteer way.

What motivated you to choose PCYC Queensland for volunteering?

Being a local I wanted to help the club out where possible.

Can you describe your role as a volunteer and the activities you’re involved in?

I am the boxing coach at the Goondiwindi PCYC and have been volunteering in the role for the past 9 plus years.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering at PCYC Queensland?

Seeing smiles on people’s faces when doing our boxing classes.

Can you share a memorable moment or experience from your volunteer work?

Getting feedback from numerous parents on how the boxing classes have changed their kids’ lives and adults’ as well.

How has volunteering at PCYC Queensland impacted you personally?

Definitely, the satisfaction of building a great activity for the club in a volunteering role.

Is there anything else you would like to add about your experience as a volunteer?

Have made some lifelong friends from the past 9 years!
