Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property
Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) refers to the rights of First Nations peoples to protect their traditional arts, culture, and knowledge. This includes safeguarding cultural materials and ensuring First Nations communities have control over, and benefit from, how their cultural heritage is used.
The Promoter asks participants to be mindful of ICIP when developing and submitting their artwork. Protected knowledge or sacred cultural materials should not be used unless appropriate permission has first been sought and granted by the relevant Traditional Custodians.
If an artwork includes ICIP elements, the participant may be asked to provide further information about how these elements were incorporated.
