Sports and Recreation

Sport and recreational activities for PCYC Charters Towers

Soccer is a fun, fast paced sport that helps build strength, flexibility, endurance, aerobic capacity, muscle and bone strength and cardiovascular health.

PCYC Charters Towers is home of the Goldfields United Hawks Football Club who run a Junior Soccer Development Program each season. The junior soccer development program is for ages 5-15 years and is the perfect way to introduce a child to soccer. The program focuses on teaching skills, increasing hand eye coordination, flexibility and communication whilst having fun and meeting new friends. Participants are taught the basics of soccer, practicing passing, kicking, dribbling and scoring with an emphasis on teamwork as each session finished with a big soccer game.

The development program will commence on May 11th 2019. Check out our timetable for session times.

Beep Test

The beep test is a multi-stage fitness test used to measure cardiovascular fitness and maximum oxygen uptake. The test requires participants to run back and forth between two lines spaced 20 meters apart within a time frame indicated by a series of pre-recorded beeps. Beeps start slowly, but gradually increase in speed with each new ‘level’, requiring the participants to increase their speed up. Once the participant fails to meet the opposite line within the designated time, they have reached their maximum level.

Commonly used for QPS and other emergency services recruitment purposes, the beep test can be booked by contacting us on (07) 4787 3231.

Each Beep Test attempt costs $30. Please ensure you bring completed medical clearance forms and photo ID.
